JAECOO Philippines’ first hybrid SUV, the J7 SHS, has earned a prestigious five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), marking a significant milestone for the brand. This recognition follows its earlier achievement in February, when the vehicle was officially range-verified by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP).
The Euro NCAP assessment evaluated the J7 SHS across multiple categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, vulnerable road user (pedestrian) protection, and safety assist systems. Impressively, the SUV scored over 80% in each of these tests, with an 81% rating for adult occupant protection. Testers highlighted the J7 SHS’s stability in frontal offset crashes and its effective protection of the driver and passenger’s knees and femurs, regardless of their size or seating position.
In addition, the hybrid SUV scored 80% in child occupant safety, pedestrian protection, and safety assist technologies. Its autonomous emergency braking system was commended for its swift response to other vehicles, while the lane support system demonstrated excellent adaptability when the vehicle drifted beyond its lane. The speed assistance system also impressed by promptly alerting drivers of local speed limits.
The J7 SHS’s outstanding safety performance stems from its comprehensive suite of advanced technologies designed to prevent accidents and protect passengers. Drivers benefit from the DMS Driver Monitoring System and a 360° HD Panoramic Camera with Under Chassis View, offering real-time awareness of road conditions. Bosch’s IPB intelligent braking system activates automatically within 0.1 seconds to avoid collisions, and six strategically placed airbags provide additional protection in the event of impact.
In a statement, OMODA & JAECOO Philippines expressed pride in the J7 SHS’s Euro NCAP rating, calling it a new benchmark for safety in the era of new energy vehicles. They emphasized that the Super Hybrid System (SHS) technology at the heart of their vehicles incorporates safety at every stage of development. The company is committed to pushing innovation further, promising to deliver mobility solutions that combine safety, performance, and smart features for global markets. “Our team is excited to bring the JAECOO J7 SHS to the Philippines,” they said.
Beyond safety, the J7 SHS stands out as a leader in the country’s hybrid SUV segment. It features a smooth, turbocharged powertrain delivering 201 horsepower, powered by a 5th Generation 1.5 TDGI DHT hybrid engine and an 18.3 kWh fast-charging lithium-ion battery. This setup allows drivers to switch seamlessly between Full Electric, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid, and Energy Recovery modes, making it versatile across different terrains, including sand and mud.
During the AAP Verification Range Test earlier this year, the J7 SHS traveled an impressive 1,488.8 kilometers on a single full tank and charge—surpassing its advertised range of 1,200+ km. It also managed a pure electric range of 106 km, providing an eco-friendly option for longer trips.
The J7 SHS was officially previewed in the Philippines at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), where it garnered significant attention and early reservations. The vehicle will also be showcased at the upcoming OMODA and JAECOO Global Conference in Wuhu, China, this April 23.
The first batch of J7 SHS units is expected to arrive in the Philippines by the end of May. Interested buyers can pre-order at OMODA and JAECOO Philippines’ authorized dealerships in Pasig, Sta. Rosa, and Cebu. Available in Premium and Comfort variants, both models are priced under PHP 1.7 million.
