It’s Official: the GrabTrike is here! The ride-hailing app Grab together with AutoItalia Philippines, the exclusive local distributor of Piaggio Apé vehicles, has teamed up to offer GrabTrike Premium Service in the City of Pangasinan.
The GrabTrike Premium Service will use 2000 Piaggio Apé City FI units, a three-wheeler light commercial vehicle based on the Vespa-brand scooter. It is powered by a Euro-IV compliant, which provides an environmental-friendly performance and better mileage during trips.
Since tricycle franchise are given by the local government units (LGUs), Grab and AutoItalia Philippines will continue to engage more LGUs to adopt the use of Piaggio Apé units by increasing the supply of tricycle franchises in the city or offering Apé vehicles as replacement option for older tricycles. At a low acquisition cost, the Piaggio Apé is envisioned to help quickly facilitate the modernization of the country’s transportation sector—particularly in marginalized areas without access to bigger modes of transport.
The Municipality of Binalonan in Pangasinan is the 12th city and the first local government in the country to adopt GrabTrike Premium Service. At present, they have total number of twenty four (24) active Piaggio Apé vehicles.
