South Korean carmaker Kia Motors, which started its India operation last year with the Seltos midsized sports utility vehicle (SUV), has unveiled a more rugged version of the car in the form of X-Line concept at the 2020 Auto Expo which started at Greater Noida in India.

The international version of the X-Line concept was showcased at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. It has rugged bumpers, increased ground clearance, and a roof rack fitted with rally lights. The aside Trail Attack model of the Seltos X-Line comes with rally lights mounted on the front bumper, custom-made alloy wheels and off-road tires. The Seltos X-Line concept is hauled by a turbocharged, 1.6-litre petrol motor which produces 264 Nm peak torque and 177 PS maximum power. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

The India-specific model of the Seltos X-Line has none of the above features, which makes the car an almost all-new product in the Indian market. The styling, however, is rugged like its global counterpart. Unlike the international version which is a four-wheel-drive, the Indian model will only have a front-wheel-drive system. The GT Line trim is the most powerful car available in India in the Seltos series. It is hauled by a 1.4-litre, turbocharged petrol unit which outputs 242 Nm peak torque and 140 PS maximum power. The Hyundai-owned company may not offer the off-road, all-wheel-drive option of the X-Line in India. Some rugged accessories, nonetheless, are expected to be introduced.

The Kia Seltos currently commands an ex-showroom price between ₹9.89-17.34 lakh (PHP 7,05,000-123,600). It locks horns with the Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur, Hyundai Creta, Morris Garages (MG) Hector, and the Tata Harrier in its segment.
